Day 1

Day 1

Everyone had an awesome sleep and have now had a yummy breakfast.

Our backpacks are ready and we are checking out so we are ready for the bus to arrive.

We are all looking very clean and fresh at the moment - not for long though.

Goodbye showers, proper toilets and comfy beds!
There is anxiousness and excitement amongst the group but I know we have all trained well and will be fine.

Getting Ready

Greg our guide has been working for Kokoda Spirit for many years, is ex military and does around 8 Treks per year so we are in good hands.

Greg told us we all need to be checked out, had breakfast and be ready to leave at 7.15 am in the morning.

We are going to the Cemetery and then onto Owers Corner to meet our porters and start the trek.  Tomorrow they ease us into it and we will only be walking a couple of hours.

After Greg left, we all took our big backpacks and went to our rooms to transfer everything from our suitcases into these backpacks that our porters carry.

We all struggled to fit everything in but hopefully as we eat our way through the snacks we have bought the packs will get lighter!

We all then met at The Green House, a restaurant within our accommodation for dinner.   It was a delicious meal but everyone was getting weary.  It's been a long day!

We are all now packed and about to get a great nights sleep in our huge big comfy beds at this Motel. Wow things have advanced in PNG from 10 years ago.  It will be interesting to see if things have changed much along the Track as well.

That's it for today. I will blog everyday but may not be able to post it until we return if there is no service.

Excited to be doing this Trek with my son Ben, my sister and nephew and some very dear friends.

Let the adventure begin!

Sydney to PNG

Sydney to PNG

This morning our bus picked us up at 2.15 am.  There were 8 of us on the bus with Wacko, Lou, Grace, Kylie and Adam meeting us at the airport.

Everyone was excited to all meet up but a little nervous about what lay ahead.  We arrived in Brisbane and then caught our connecting flight to PNG.

Our accommodation for the night is unbelievable and a massive difference to what we experienced when 3 of us did the Track 10 years ago !   It is called The Stanley which we think is a good omen as that was my dads name.

We checked into our rooms and went and grabbed some lunch together.  It is 28 degrees and a hot wind blowing.

Several people have gone to have an afternoon nap and the rest of us are sitting around the beautiful pool having a drink.

Our Australian Guide, Greg is meeting us all around the pool area at 4.30 pm to go through what will happen over the next 10 days and will bring the big backpacks for us to pack.

We are booked into the restaurant at the Motel at 6.30 pm tonight for dinner and I would say it will then be a fairly early night for everyone after our very early morning.

Until tomorrow,
Donna. x
